2.2  GDP of Bangladesh and its unique sectorial makeup  

All sectors that make up Bangladesh’s GDP and specifics around the country’s makeup

Predominant sectors: The predominant sectors in Bangladesh’s GDP include Textiles and Garments, Agriculture, Manufacturing, Construction, Services

Not so predominant sectors: Other sectors that contribute to the GDP but are not as dominant include, Information Technology, Pharmaceuticals, Fisheries, Tourism

Total GDP  

Total GDP: Bangladesh’s GDP was around $446.35 billion in 2023.

Primary industry share of the total GDP: Primary industries, such as agriculture, contribute significantly to Bangladesh’s GDP. The agricultural sector’s contribution to Bangladesh’s GDP in 2022 was  11.22 percent.

Secondary industry share of the total GDP: Secondary industries including the manufacturing and construction industry contributed approximately 37.65 percent in 2022.

Tertiary industry share of the total GDP: The tertiary sector consists of services, such as banking, healthcare, and education. Contributed about 51.24 percent in 2022.

GDP growth rate – YOY

Total GDP growth rate:  In fiscal year 2023, Bangladesh registered a GDP growth rate of 6.0% after the global pandemic.

Primary Industry growth rate: In 2022-2023 growth, rate of the primary industry is 2.61% can also vary but is typically lower than the overall GDP growth rate.

Secondary Industry growth rate:  In 2022-2023, secondary industry’s growth rate is 8.18% that is often higher than that of the primary industry.

Tertiary Industry growth rate:  The tertiary industry, which includes services, typically shows a steady growth rate of 5.84% in 2022-2023.
