12.4 Vision and development objectives of Mexico’s Bioeconomy

Mexico’s 2021–2025 National Planning Framework

The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) developed its Strategy 2030 to align with global sustainability objectives, such as those outlined in the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This strategy aims to foster environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive economic growth. GGGI’s efforts are directed through five key Programmatic Global Operational Priorities (GOPs): GGGI endeavors to accelerate access to climate finance and green investments for public and private sectors in member countries. The focus is on ensuring equitable and inclusive access to these financial resources.

GGGI assists member countries in strengthening policy planning, regulatory frameworks, and institutional capacities. This support is crucial in achieving green growth outcomes and sustainable development. GGGI emphasizes the development of a sustainable and circular bioeconomy while ensuring the preservation of healthy natural systems. This involves promoting practices that utilize biological resources in an environmentally friendly manner. GGGI works toward making cities and communities more sustainable, livable, and resilient. This involves supporting the creation of green jobs, services, and infrastructure in urban areas. GGGI aims to accelerate progress in eradicating poverty and reducing gender inequality through its country programs. These efforts are aimed at creating more inclusive and equitable societies. In Mexico, GGGI has been actively involved since 2013, providing guidance and support to the federal and subnational governments. This assistance includes aiding in the development of the National Climate Change Strategy, improving air quality, promoting cleaner transportation alternatives, and assisting in the formulation of green growth strategies at both federal and state levels. The Country Planning Framework (CPF) for Mexico, covering the 2021-2025 period, aligns GGGI’s interventions with both its Strategy 2030 and Mexico’s national development plans. The CPF aims to ensure strategic alignment, deliver transformative programs, secure government commitment and support, establish partnerships, promote knowledge sharing, and reinforce linkages with international commitments and sustainable development agendas. By focusing on measurable outcomes, fostering partnerships, and aligning with Mexico’s national priorities and global sustainability goals, GGGI aims to drive impactful and sustainable green growth initiatives in the country.
