18.5 Government Policies Support   

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is responsible for ensuring food safety and hygiene, from production to just before retail. It inspects and accredits farms, abattoirs, and food processing establishments, with a focus on imported food products due to Singapore’s heavy reliance on food imports. The National Environment Agency (NEA) oversees food preparation at retail outlets, and Singapore has enhanced its surveillance efforts to prevent foodborne diseases. The country has established various laws and regulations to regulate the food industry, ensuring safety and quality. These policies and measures are in place to safeguard public health and prevent foodborne illnesses (Tortajada & Zhang,  2016).
