Food Security Strategies

Singapore’s food security strategy is multifaceted and designed to ensure a stable food supply for its population. Key components of the strategy include diversifying food sources, investing in overseas agricultural projects, developing the agri-food industry, and having a comprehensive Food Security Roadmap that guides efforts. Core, supporting, and enabling strategies encompass research and development, reducing food wastage, strengthening infrastructure, and welfare programs. Funds support local farmers, while land tenure policies are being revised to encourage agricultural investments. Management of fishery ports by the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority ensures a steady seafood supply. These strategies have proven successful in maintaining food security during crises, even when neighboring countries imposed food export bans.  (Tortajada & Zhang, 2016).
